OSHA Revises HAZCOM Standard; Training Due Date Dec. 1

OSHA is requesting employer training by Dec. 1, 2013, regarding worker awareness of new labels as well as safety data sheets coming into the marketplace under an amended hazard communication (HAZCOM) standard occurring through June, 2016.

The latest product identifiers, signage, and pictograms as well as hazard documents “will improve worker understanding of the hazards associated with the chemicals in their workplace,” the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) stated at osha.gov.

“This training is needed early in the transition process since workers are already beginning to see the new labels and SDSs safety data sheets, formerly known as material safety data sheets on the chemicals in their workplace,” the OSHA proclaimed.

The ADA regulatory compliance guide provides additional details on training programs specifications for the amended hazard communication standard to match the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

As mandatory by OSHA, dental professional businesses should train their employees on the latest label elements and also new safety data sheet structure by Dec. 1, 2013. Businesses or dental office compliance professionals also need to modify alternative workplace listing and their hazard communication method as required and give additional worker training programs for recently identified physical or perhaps health haza on the chemicals in their workplace,” the OSHA stated.
